Last Thursday I ran out of hand sewing on our sewing meeting, so in desperation I started on a project that I hasd thoughtthat I wouldn't work on until spring: a late 13th-early 14th century Italian cotton working class gown.
Bit I am very fast in my hand sewing, so here it is, photographed, and with its own page with documentation and sources.
There are many more images if you follow the link.

My wool redingote and velvet bonnet
I took a break from planning this spring's teaching and asked Rickard to take photos of me in my new wool redingote and velvet bonnet outdoors. The sun was shining brightly so the colours are...interesting.
More pictures and some construction info this way.

And I have a winter bonnet!
My friend Katarina came over for sewing and tea today. She made a 15th century Italian headdress and I made a winter bonnet to wear with my red wool redingote.
I decided to make one of the styles from 1806-1807. It is made from heavy fusible interlining, stainless steel wire and duct tape ;)
And velvet, satin bias tape and velvet ribbon.

Winter bonnets and hats 1810-1819
If one, like me, has a fondness for total insanity in hats, there are few decades that beat the 1810s - well, except for the 1820s and 1830s :)
Quite a few of these I have neither the materials and tools, nor the skills to make, but how I love them.
1810.
Bonnet made from Levantine (probably a wool fabric) trimmed with plush, lined douillette (the coat).
Redingote and bonnet from velvet.
Merino redingote, bonnet trimemd with plush and three plumes.

English fashion magazines didn't state the materials in the fashion plates, though undoubtedly did so in the accompanying text.

Winter bonnets and hats 1800-1809
So, I have made redingote from berry red wool with a white pinstripe, and with cuffs and collar from a beige-white velvet. It needs closures, btu sicne I have sprained my ankle I can't go downtown to the haberdasher's. While hoping for a recovery I am thus planning a bonnet or hat to wear with it. So I've been going through period fashion plates for inspiration.
And to help myself bring some order in this I thought that it would be good to make a blog post with winter bonnets and hats.
