My green silk 14th century gown on a tower in Wales

I had bought some of Alfhild's fabric from her widover, my friend Matti, and in a moment of madness I made a dress from green silk that used to be hers to wear at the funeral. I made it in less than three days. The seams are sewn on machin, but felled but hand on the inside and it is of course hand finished. For the funeral I made machine made button holes, but afterwards I remade the sleeves with hand made buttonholes. They didn't fit well anyway - after all I was in a hurry - so it was needed.

And I brought the dress with me to Wales, where we went on holiday the week after. That is the good thing with silk: it takes up no space. Especially if you are just going to take photos and don't need to bring a linen shift. We traveled only with cabin luggade, but considering the heat wave in Wales I only needed short dresses and blouses made from thin fabric, a pair of shorts, and a swimsuit and towel, so there was space.

These photos are taken on top of, and below, the Bath Tower in the 13th century town wall of Caernarfon. The tower is rented  out from the Landmark Trust, and we stayed there four nights. It was pretty fantastic.
