The Elemental series: Fire. 2020

It all started with my making a wire crown to be worn in a ritual, symbolising the element fire. It was fun, and fairly simple to make somehting pretty, if not perfect.

So somehow I ended up making a crown for each of the elements (a new one for fire). And then you need to make outfits, and take photos. Obviously. The fire element was the second in that series.
The photos was taken in my kitchen. I am standing on the fabric that was alter used for the sleeves for my Proserpine gown.

The overgown is inspired by the works of Mariano Fortuny. It is a table cloth with lots of metal in it, edged with velvet, both bought second hand. As are the dark red velvet ribbons holding the sleeves and the sides of the overgown together. And the ubnergown, which is a sunbleached sari that I got from a friend. The cloak worn in some of the photos is another charity shop find, a thai tabel cloth. I did buy new lining for the overgown, however.

This photo is lghtened, so that you can see the velvet ribbons better. I need to add weights to the front of the overgown, so that it stays in place, and not drag backwards, as it does now.

The undergown is basically a wide bodice with a wider skirt gathered to it. it is the belt, which I made for my first bliaut in the 19990s, that keeps it together and gives it some shape,

In this photo you can see the crown better, I made it so that it looked like flames.
